Finding a skilled and reliable tradesperson can be a hassle in Cebu.
Local tradespeople often struggle to expand their customer base due to lack of visibility and inefficient marketing channels. On the other hand, clients, such as household and establishment owners, have to resort to word of mouth recommendations from their families and friends to locate reliable and skilled tradespeople near the area.
This method of manually searching for and contacting tradespeople and clients are time-consuming and often frustrating for everyone involved.

Beyond the prototype, the project explored the business viability of the concept through market research, strategic analysis, and value proposition development. Our team positioned AyuAyu as a local-first platform built on trust, convenience, and accessibility for both customers and skilled workers.
We approached AyuAyu as an end-to-end startup concept—applying business and product frameworks to shape both its strategy and design:
Strategy Development
We defined business growth directions using Porter’s Competitive Strategy Framework and the Ansoff Matrix, identifying differentiation opportunities in the local gig economy.
Market Analysis

We estimated market potential using TAM–SAM–SOM segmentation and identified our beachhead market through the Bowling Alley technique.
Value Proposition & Customer Development

We then crafted a clear value proposition emphasizing trust, speed, and reliability, and validated assumptions through a Business Model Canvas (BMC).
Product Planning

The product planning phase began with mapping AyuAyu’s service framework, outlining the customer journey, frontstage and backstage interactions, and support processes.

I then lead the creation of user story maps to prioritize key features for the MVP, service search, booking flow, provider verification, and reviews.

And using these personas, we ensured alignment of the features with the development and release cycles based on the defined market strategy.

Towards the end of the semester, we presented AyuAyu to a panel of experienced local tech startup founders in the Philippines.
We received positive feedback from the panel, who commended the project and recommended refining the startup’s legal framework, particularly around company liability and the verification process for certified tradespeople.
